Unity Hospital, located in Fridley, Minn. serves the northern metropolitan communities with a full continuum of care and services and is known for its expertise in bariatrics and obstetrical care. With 1,500 employees and 220 staffed beds, Unity provides inpatient and outpatient services to more than 107,000 patients each year. It shares its nearly 842-physician medical staff with Mercy Hospital in Coon Rapids, Minn.




Responsibilities:

 

Assist the nurse manager in the development, implementation and evaluation of patient care delivery systems.Maintain clinical knowledge of patient population, delegates/supports patient care activities as needed above the scheduled staffing pattern. Support the charge nurse to assure assignments are made considering patient acuity, staff competence/ skill development. Function as a mentor to charge nurses and address specific patient care priorities. Responsible for establishing a process to assure equipment function, repair process, and routine maintenance on day to day basis. Serve as a resource for staff for patient family support. Assist in completion of unit specific and service line audits. Act as a role model for clinical professional practice as described in the Charter for Professional Nursing Practice. Assist in identification of staff learning needs and development of education and competency plans consistent with unit, service line, and organization priorities. Collaborate with preceptors to coordinate unit-based orientation and preceptor programs, and assist in development of unit preceptors. Promote attendance and assures completion of required education and competency verification. Collaborate with Professional Development Supervisor (PDS) and preceptors to evaluate unit orientation and preceptor programs, unit competency plan and staff training. Assure that required documentation is maintained for unit employees. Assist in coordination of students receiving clinical experience on unit. Maintain own clinical competence in specific patient population served. Assist in performance review of RN staff. Serve as direct report for unit roles as delegated by Nurse Manager. Responsible for hiring, bi-annual reviews, coaching, discipline, and termination of unit staff as delegated by manager.
