Carries out patient treatment plan under the supervision of a Physical Therapist.
-Observes safety precautions in the application and use of heat, cold, light, water, sound and massage.
-Carries out positioning and exercises, ambulation and activities of daily living.
-Carries out treatment utilizing special equipment. .
-Observes and reports the patient's responses to the Physical Therapist.
-Acts as an assistant to the physical therapist when the therapist is performing tests, evaluations and complex treatments.
- Assists with department orientation as assigned.
-Assists Physical Therapist with PTA Student education activities.
-Delegates appropriate activities to Nursing Assistants consistent with their training and skill (patient transfers, patient transport, assisting therapist directly with care) with the approval of the primary Physical Therapist.
-Safely and effectively treats and educates patients/families based on established treatment plan and goals of care. Coordinates care with primary PT
-Participates in clerical and reception activities, and complies with procedures for maintenance of supplies and equipment.
-Coordinates patient care with other clinical team members ensuring optimal patient care and communication as evidenced in the clinical record.
-Completes all documentation and charges of services per department standard.
-Maintains and enhances personal knowledge as well as promoting professional standards in physical therapy.
- Attends all required safety training programs and can describe his or her responsibilities related to general safety, department/service safety, and specific job related hazards.

Completion of a two year program for Physical Therapy Assistant approved by the American Physical Therapy Association.
-2+years of experience preferred.
License/Certification: After July 1, 2008, possession of valid Physical Therapy Assistant license issued by the Minnesota State Board of Physical Therapy.
