Under direction of the emergency department physician, evaluate, diagnose and perform therapeutic tasks for emergency room patients.
Performs and records history and physical examination. Writes routine orders for appropriate laboratory and radiological studies. Informs the physician of all changes in the patient's condition.
Performs patient teaching. Performs therapeutic and diagnostic procedures as directed by the physician, including but not limited to the following:
--Wound care and dressing.
--Venipuncture.
--Starting intravenous lines.
--Bladder catheterization.
--Suturing of lacerations.
--Pelvic examinations and testing.
--Incision and drainage of small abscesses.
--Immobilizing fractures and other musculoskeletal problems by the use of splinting and casting.
Minimum Education/Work Experience
-- Graduation from an accredited Physician Assistant (PA) program
License/Certification
-- Certification or eligibility for certification from the Statie of Minnesota as a PA.
Positions at the Hennepin County Medical Center are credentialed through the Office of the Medical Director in accordance with its policies.
