Job Description

Plans and manages social services provided; monitors quality of services provided;
Supervises departmental personnel; interviews and selects new personnel;
Administer and enforce the employer/employee labor agreement and personnel rules, including payroll review;
Plan and assign work, and evaluate employee performance; consult on difficult case problems.
Prepares department budget
Insures that State, County and Medicare guidelines affecting social services activities are adhered to
Serves as resource person to staff and medical personnel relative to psycho/socio aspects of health care delivery in the hospital and community
Maintains contacts with outside concerns such as nursing homes to complement hospital social services
Prepares plans related to and achieves annual departmental goals including clinical improvement, patient satisfaction, employee engagement, financial vitality and growth
Prepares and maintains reports;
Performs related work as required;
Establishes and maintains social services department and related programs policies and procedures.
Maintains an integrated system-wide program of social services that meets the needs of patients, families, staff, and physicians.
Ensures that programs maintain clinically competent and adequate staff as needed to provide social services to expected patient caseloads.
Is responsible for departments operational excellence; ensures department delivers quality services in accordance with applicable policies, procedures, professional standards, and regulations.
Is responsible for the fiscal management of social services department; ensures proper utilization of organizations financial resources.
Effectively communicates departmental, organization, and industry information to staff.
Attends all required safety training programs and can describe his or her responsibilities related to general and department/service safety specific job related hazards.
Follows the hospital exposure control plans/blood borne and airborne pathogens.
Demonstrates respect and regard for the dignity of all patients, families, visitors, and fellow employees to ensure a professional, responsible, and courteous environment.
Accurately identifies real/potential problems affecting the services and implements solutions with follow-through and communication.
Promotes effective working relations both interdepartmentally to promote system-wide continuity of care.

Qualifications

-Master's degree in Social Work AND Two years of management experience in medical social work.
-Licensure as a LISW by the Minnesota Board of Social Work required.
-LICSW preferred.

Ideal Candidate Will Possess:
-A minimum of five years progressively responsible experience in the social services field
-Strong management background leading hospital and/or clinic social services for diverse patient population.
