Job Description

Under the direction of the Nurse Manager and in collaboration with others, the clinical Care Supervisor is responsible for the day-to-day clinical operations for the unit/department. Duties include staff supervisor, patient flow, staff education, orientation and competency assessment, financial stewardship, performance improvement, coordination of patient care and safety, and serving in the Charge Nurse Role.
Job Functions:
Supervises employees, including interviewing, hiring, evaluating, and performance management as directed by the manager.
Assists in coordinating patient care with other nursing services, health services, and community health care agencies in order to maximize patient flow.
Monitors the quality of patient care provided.
Coordinates orientation, competency assessment and staff development in collaboration with the central education department.
Assesses, plans, implements and evaluates unit based orientation, competency assessment and education in collaboration with the central education department.
Serves as resource for unit staff to resolve clinical care issues.
Acts as a mentor to new staff to assist in development of critical thinking skills, organization skills and decision making.
Monitors unit operations to comply with budget expectations.
Makes decisions that support department and hospital policies and procedures.
Leads and participates in unit and organization-wide committees as assigned
Functions as the unit manager, when the manager is not present.
Performs delegated duties as required.
Assists/supports with maintenance of regulatory standards, competency requirements, policies and procedures.
Role models HCMC nursing vision and Relationship Based Care delivery model.
Supports the integration of research and evidence based practice in the delivery of nursing care services.
Serves in the Charge Nurse role


Minimum Education/Work Experience
Two (2) years of current nursing experience Emergency dept/ICU or Observation
Current MN RN licensure
Bachelors degree in Nursing
Excellent written and oral communication skills
Driven by results
Staff development
Preferred Qualifications
Masters degree
ACLS certification or must obtain within 3 months of hire
Tele trained
Current Minnesota Registered Nurse licensure
