Job Description

The care team member specifically involved with preparation of supplies, equipment and instruments for surgery; to provide and maintain a sterile field; to assist the surgical staff with technical aspects during surgery; care for equipment and medical supplies following surgery; and performs other duties as assigned. The above staff member must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skill necessary to provide care based on physical, psychosocial, educational, safety, and related criteria, appropriate to the age of the patients served in his/her assigned service area. The skill and knowledge needed to provide such care may be gained through education, training, or experience.


High School degree or equivalent required.
Completion of an accredited, or in the process of being accredited, surgical technologist training program.

Demonstrates the ability to read, write, and communicate in English.
Eligible to take the certifying examination offered by the National Association of Surgical Technologists.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Knowledge, skills, and abilities of routine principles and practices.
Knowledge of aseptic and sterilization techniques.
Knowledge of surgical instruments procedures and related supplies.
Knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, physiology and microbiology.
Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
Ability to properly lift 50 pounds.
Ability to stand and walk for prolonged periods of time.
Knowledge of patient legal rights.
Ability to communicate effectively and work cooperatively with patients, visitors, and co-workers and have knowledge of patients rights.
Licensure/ Registration/ Certification:
Must receive and maintain Surgical Technologist certification within 6 months of employment.
Demonstrates at time of employment and every two years thereafter, competency in Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR).
