Certified Unit Assistant - Behavioral Health Unit

Provides supportive inpatient care in accordance with established procedures and applicable regulations as directed by nursing staff.

MAJOR AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY / ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
A. Position Responsibilities
a. Cleans and stocks supplies and equipment as directed.
b. Receives and directs phone calls promptly and accurately following Hospital etiquette guidelines.
c. Updates patient Intake/Output including oral intake only, measured urine output, and measured urinary catheter output after emptying.
d. Make occupied/unoccupied beds.
e. Assists with admissions, transfers and discharges.
f. Completes work assignments on time/readily accepts assignments
g. Demonstrates respect and regard for the dignity of all patients, families, visitors and fellow staff to ensure a professional, responsible and courteous environment.
h. Assists with maintaining a safe, clean and orderly environment.
i. Operates all equipment and performs all procedures/care in a safe manner.
j. Optimizes time efficiently and effectively. Minimizes overtime.
k. Promotes and ensures a culture of service excellence by adhering to the Service Excellence Standards of CentraCare Health-Monticello.
l. Continuously displays a "can do" attitude within the department and across departmental lines to contribute to the Services Excellence Standards in place at CentraCare Health-Monticello.
m. Assists patient with ADL's.
n. Assist patient with feeding/meals.
o. Assists patients with hygiene and general cares ensuring patient dignity is maintained.
p. Assist with lifting, turning, moving, repositioning, and transporting/ambulating of patients from one position or area to another using proper procedures.
q. Transports patients.
r. Participates in staff meetings.
s. Uses appropriate communication skills with patients and co-workers.
t. Reports all changes in patient's condition to the RN/LPN assigned to that patient to ensure professional assessments. This includes vital signs, daily weights, and glucose checks.

REQUIREMENTS:
Must be registered with the Minnesota Nursing Assistant Registry.
Must have current BLS certification through the American Heart Association.
Must obtain Functional Improvement Measure (FIM) certification within first 12 months of employment.
Ability to perform duties in a caring manner.
Ability to multitask.
Self directed.

LANGUAGE SKILLS:
Ability to read and communicate effectively in English.
Strong written and verbal skills.
Strong interpersonal human relations skills.
