Job Description

Under the direction of the Nurse Manager, this position is accountable for the total nursing care needs of the newborn, pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric patients in the Operating Room. The OR-RN, implements nursing activities for operating room services and ensures compliance with all standard policies and procedures. Assists in operating procedures and implements nursing activities for cost effective and efficient operations in an operating room. Provides suggestions for optimizing existing work processes and resource allocation for an effective operating room. Ensures adherence to relevant policies and procedures for operating room nursing services. Promotes and ensures patient satisfaction with surgery and nursing care services

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education:

4345/4331/4348/4349 Completion of accredited associate degree program/diploma in nursing.

4346/4332/4338 Completion of accredited baccalaureate program in nursing or completion of an accredited AD nursing program and a Bachelors Degree in Education, Social Work, Psychology, the Life Sciences (e.g. chemistry) or business.

4347/4333/4339 Masters degree in nursing or Bachelors Degree in Nursing with a Masters Degree in Hospital Administration, Public Health, Education, Social Work, Psychology, Life Sciences, or Business.

Experience:

Registered Nurse with Perioperative course (must be complete or completed within 3 months of hire) OR 1 year of operating room experience without the course preferred OR a Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) that has successfully completed an approved RN program and obtained a nursing License to practice as a Registered Nurse.

Per Diem status requires a minimum of 3 years (6240) of RN work experience in a surgical setting.

Licensure/ Registration/ Certification:

Licensed as a Registered Nurse by the State of Minnesota. Demonstrates at time of employment and every two years thereafter, competency in cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR).

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of current nursing practices and techniques.
Knowledge of emergency procedures and medical intervention techniques.
Ability to effectively participate on an interdisciplinary treatment team.
Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with patients, family members, and co-workers.
Ability to recognize subtle changes in patients condition or body systems.
Knowledge of aseptic and sterilization techniques.
Knowledge of surgical instrument procedures and related supplies.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Education:

Completion of a perioperative nursing course prior to hire preferred.

Additional Information:
Current OR circulating expereinced preferred. Will conisder Periop program certification in lieu of experience or CST who has completed approved RN program and obtained license.
