Job Description

Responsible for rendering technical skilled care to patients during operative procedures; preparing for surgical procedures; cleaning and efficient turn over rooms for surgery; assuming responsibility for instrument processing, performing other related duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education: Graduate from an accredited school of Surgical Technology.
Experience: N/A
Licensure/Certification/Registration: Wisconsin Background Study upon hire and renewed per Wisconsin state law.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Education: N/A
Experience: Previous operating room experience.
Licensure/Certification/Registration: Certification.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Knowledge of supplies, instruments and equipment used in ambulatory surgery setting, instrument cleaning and sterilization, Universal Precautions, generally accepted safety practices and quality control. Knowledge of basic mathematical computation. Ability to work harmoniously with professional and technical staff and Surgeons. Ability to communicate verbally and listen to the needs of the patient and the directions of the Surgeon and professional staff within the operating room. Ability to plan, organize and remain attentive throughout surgical procedures. Ability to work under stress/pressure, to maintaining accurate records and reports and to participate in orientation of new personnel and teaching of students. Ability to assemble and disassemble equipment and some instrumentation. Ability to write legibly, see, hear, stand, sit, walk, bend, speak English.

READING - Intermediate: Ability to read and interpret documents such as operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals.
WRITING - Intermediate: Ability to write routine reports, correspondence, or procedures.
SPEAKING - Intermediate: Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one, small group situations or before groups of customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS - Basic Skills: Ability to add and subtract two-digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10's and 100's. Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume, and distance.
REASONING ABILITY - Intermediate Skills: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
AGE SPECIFIC COMPETENCIES - Skilled at assessment and knowledgeable of growth and development. Provides appropriate care respective to the ages of the patients served per clinical environment.

WORKING CONDITIONS
May be exposed to infectious and contagious diseases. Regularly exposed to the risk of bloodborne diseases. Exposed to hazardous anesthetic agents, body fluids and wastes. Exposed to hazards from electrical/mechanical/power equipment. Subject to burns and cuts; occasional exposure to unpleasant patient or unit elements.
