The cook/chef is a professional who:
prepares and cooks meals according to established recipes and menu cycles; confers with dietary director regarding food items, special diets, menu changes, etc.
prepares food items in correct portions needed for patients and residents, of all ages, MBW, Briarwood, Head Start and employees; and prepares individual servings according to portion control standards
plans cooking schedule to meet time restraints but preserves nutritional value and adheres to sanitation standards
bakes, roasts, broils, steams and seasons foods as required for daily meals
prepares extra or special food items as requested
set up food in steam tables and delivers as needed
provides work direction to staff in the preparation of food
trains new employees as assigned to area
checks deliveries form vendors as needed
must have training and/or experience in quantity food preparation and principles of recipe usage, knowledge of food service functions and sanitation principles, and be familiar with food preparation methods
must be able to plan and prepare foods according to an established time schedule
must be able to instruct and direct the work of others
must be able to work cooperatively with others and be able to move and lift heavy boxes and food items
must be ServSafe certified or have the ability to do so within a few months ofemployment
Full time position, 60+ hours per two week pay period; to include a variety of morning and evening shifts, and every other weekend.
